Mandisa Shiceka School of Specialisation took part in a Samsung Solve for Tomorrow 2024 competition. In this competition, the learners were required to look around in their community, identify a problem and then come with a STEM based solution to the problem. Due to the mining background in Mogale City, there are areas that were left with soil contamination issues, which led to some agricultural challenge in our community.
Our learners took it upon themselves to come up with an innovative idea to solve this problem. Their solution was to invent a Smart Automated Hydroponic system that requires minimum human monitoring, using less water and organic fertiliser.
Their invention won them First Position in the competition. Samsung awarded Mandisa Shiceka SOS with R100 000 and Samsung devices for the learners who participated. The cash prize will go towards purchasing STEM equipment for the school in order to improve the quality of learning at our school.
